Our goal is to create timeless and elegant glass for everyday use as well as design objects that last from one generation to the next, exactly as we’ve been doing since 1898. Orrefors glass constitutes sustainable design that creates a more beautiful world.
At Kosta Glasbruk, we have worked with lead-free glass mass since the end of the 1990s. Also our partners has been working with lead-free glass mass since 2019.
We test our food contact products to ensure they do not transfer substances to the food.
As a company, we are quality and environmentally certified according to ISO 9001:2015 och ISO 14001:2015.
Transportation - When choosing how to transport our products to, from, and within Sweden, we always keep the environment in mind. To the extent possible, we ship by sea rather than by road or air, and we make sure to pack the vehicles or containers completely to reduce the number of transports.

Just like us, all of our partners within and beyond the EU must comply with our Code of Conduct, which ensures fundamental working conditions, the right to form trade unions, regulations for minimum pay, overtime pay and limits to working hours. The Code of Conduct also includes bans on child labor and discrimination. We visit our suppliers annually to ensure high quality and compliance with these rules. The majority of our partners are in the EU.
At the Kosta glassworks in Småland, we work continuously to refine the production of our primary ingredient: glass. As part of our improvement initiatives, we are currently working with four of the UN’s Global Goals: clean water and sanitation; affordable and clean energy; industry, innovation and infrastructure; and responsible consumption and production. At the glassworks in Småland, we have our own treatment plant and we reuse the water in the production process as much as possible. We also work with energy-saving measures such as efficient lighting, carbon-neutral ovens, and district heating for our premises. We always want to find new solutions and therefore partner with different institutions and universities. We are currently working with the research institute RISE on a project to look at process optimization to achieve the best possible glass quality. All waste from the production of clear glass at Kosta glassworks is reused to make new glass, saving both natural resources and energy. Glass is an incredible material that can be reused time and time again without losing quality.
We continue to work with improvements, because our vision for the future is to create elegant, innovative design that contributes to a more sustainable world for centuries to come.
